Working with Julian Murphy was a fantastic experience! They were professional yet easygoing, making the process smooth and enjoyable. They tailored the choreography to each performer’s strengths, ensuring our scenes were both safe and exciting. If we were unsure about a move, They were always willing to adjust it, and their rates were reasonable while remaining flexible with our schedule and budget.
Julian Murphy has always demonstrated creativity, an open desire to work collaboratively, and drive to excellence. I am happy to say I hire Julian whenever I can as I see a tremendous future for them. If you are looking for a terrific artist to join you in your project I heartily suggest you seek out Julian. You will be thrilled with your experience with them.
Having worked with Julian first as my student, then as an assistant and more recently as a colleague, I have the utmost confidence in their stage combat skills. Julian is someone who is truly excited and dedicated to this craft and it is a joy to work with someone whose love for the art is so evident. Julian is also kind and thoughtful in the room and most importantly, they are still continuously adapting and looking for ways to grow – an invaluable asset for an educator and collaborator.
Julian Murphy came to my theatre group to help us with a fight scene. They was able to teach us the choreography in a professional, yet entertaining manner. Their teaching method was casual, yet they still conveyed the seriousness of the lessons. The best part was how respectful they were. They kept checking to see if we were comfortable with what they were doing, which made the lessons feel safe. I would highly recommend using Julian for your group or production
Working with Julian was a fantastic experience. Their knowledge of how the body reacts to different ways of dying is honestly mind-boggling. They were a great teacher that treated everyone with respect and it was definitely a highlight of the production.
"With a variety of deaths and fights in the script, the club hired a professional choreographer to choreograph those scenes so that they were realistic, and Julian Murphy spent one whole Sunday morning with the cast" - The TownHall Crier
"Merrily We Roll Along" is a heartwarming but tragic tale of three friends attempting to make it in the arts. This production involved several small scenes of violence, and some movement choreography. Pushes, pulls, falls, and punches were used in controlled and concise scenes for a powerful dramatic effect.
"Worn" is a short student horror film wherein an intelligent and disturbing creature hunts down its prey within an apartment. The film had several scenes of violence, including the use of makeup effects. Throws, punches, strikes with improvised weapons, and more were used to give the creature a sense of inhuman intelligence and strength.
"Things We Lost In The Fire" is a moving and haunting story about an apartment block set ablaze and the stories of the people who live within it. It contained one scene of violence with an intimate partner which had to be carefully choreographed. Combining the implications of the physical threat, and a constrained use of explicit violence, the scene was made emotional and deeply impactful without reaching into the territory of gratuitous violence.
Devised for the 48hr Film Festival, "Lady Sienna" is about an elf maiden attempting to escape from her captor and liberate herself from slavery. The film involves the use of several weapons, and the choreography of two scenes of violence. In a fight involving a club and a knife Sienna ends up victorious, killing her pursuer.
"A Party To Murder" is about a murder mystery gone wrong, with the players each searching for a very real murderer amongst their ranks. The play involved numerous scenes of violence, including a death by poisoning, two deaths by gunshot, and a fight using a shard of plate and an iron poker. We were also able to give the actors tips on turning their weapons into acting tools to progress their needs and desires.
